WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Premium Accountant is responsible for submitting payments to insurance carriers in an accurate and timely manner. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting in the auditing of client transactions to ensure correct payment streams, collaborating with the Account Managers to research and respond to discrepancies with carrier statements and invoicing and identifying opportunities to improve workflow process and procedures. The Premium Accountant must communicate effectively with carriers to ensure minimal corporate financial risk related to payments, create monthly accounts payable reports, develop action plans, collaborate with to the Agency Bill Manager and train new employees on Relation’s accounting processes and procedures.


A GLIMPSE INTO YOUR DAY

  • Reviews all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment.
  • Matches invoices to checks, obtain all signatures for checks and distribute checks accordingly.
  • Responds to all CSR/Company inquiries.
  • Processes refunds of premium and correspondence relating to refunds.
  • Reconciles carrier statements, researches and corrects discrepancies.
  • Partners with month end closing.
  • Maintains files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Oversees Trust Bank Accounts.
  • Completes bank reconciliations.
  • Creates and maintains correspondence for the payment of administrative fees, commissions, access fees and overpayments.
  • Is responsible for making sure that premium is handled in a smooth, timely manner from when it is received for processing to the booking and closing of transmittals.
  • Serves as back-up for premium allocation systems.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Minimum 2 years finance and accounting experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies and procedures reflective of the financial service industry.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations associated with HIPAA.
  • Advanced analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication.
  • Willingness to adhere to all principles of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
