Ascension Donates Nearly $9K & 3K lbs of Food

Walnut Creek, Calif., 24 October 2016 – Ascension’s Bringing Hope to the Table campaign came to a close this month with the announcement that employees collected nearly $9,000 and 3,000 pounds of food at 16 office locations. Ascension launched the campaign to support the efforts of corporate partner Feeding America, a nonprofit organization committed to ending hunger in America, and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its business unit Pan American Insurance Agency, Inc.

In addition to raising funds and collecting food items, Pan American team members from California and Arizona volunteered for their local chapters of the Feeding America network. Many recruited the help of family members, friends, and business partners to join forces and make an even bigger impact on the hungry in each region.

On the Central Coast, Ascension associates recruited the assistance of The Rotary Club of Santa Maria. On October 5, after months of campaigning together, representatives from both companies presented their monetary donation to the FoodBank of Santa Barbara County in the form of a $1,290.00 check (pictured below). For each dollar donated, the food bank can deliver eight nutritious meals to the hungry. The partnership between Pan American team members in Santa Barbara County and the Rotarians generated more than ten thousand healthful meals for people in need in the county.

“For all of us at Pan American, being part of our communities is a big deal. The Rotary’s motto is Service Above Self.  It was a great feeling to hand over a check on behalf of all of the individuals who truly exemplify that message in their daily lives,” said Scott Dunn, Vice President of Pan American Insurance Agency, Inc. and an active Rotarian for almost two decades.

In Walnut Creek, CA, home to Ascension’s corporate headquarters, Vice President/Producer Stephanie Reilly made a call to one of her L.A.-based business contacts: Sullivan Brokers Wholesale Insurance Solutions, Inc. Her request for help resulted in Sullivan Brokers’ donating $500.00 to the cause.

Said Stephanie, “Sullivan Brokers has always been a great partner whenever we need market expertise for our clients. They took their partnership commitment to a new level by making a financial contribution to our campaign.”

In Ascension’s Stockton office, employees volunteered at their local food banks and made monetary donations directly to Feeding America, via one-time or recurring payroll deductions. One Stockton employee, Commercial Account Manager Elizabeth Corona, recruited the help of a family friend, who works at Foster Farms, to coordinate a donation of 720 pounds of chicken.

Collectively, Ascension’s Pan American, Corporate, and Walter L. Clark employees contributed nearly $9,000, 3,000 pounds of food items, and 150 volunteer hours to Feeding America and various food banks throughout California and Arizona.

“I’m very proud of the Pan American team for going above and beyond these last three months on this campaign. It speaks volumes about their work ethic and commitment to their communities,” said Steve Martin, President of Pan American Insurance Agency, Inc.

Although the summer campaign has ended, Ascension employees have the opportunity to continue making monetary contributions to Feeding America as part of Ascension’s company-wide charitable giving program.
